Pela primeira vez, mulher negra é coroada Miss Grã-Bretanha

No sábado, 14, os presentes no Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, em Newport, no País de Gales, viram a história ser feita: pela primeira vez, uma negra foi coroada Miss Grã-Bretanha e irá representar o reino no Miss Universo 2018, que ainda não tem data definida.

A representante do Reino Unido é Dee-Ann Rogers, nascida e criada nas ilhas caribenhas de Anguilla, que fazem parte do território britânico. Além de participar de concursos de beleza, ela também representou seu país duas vezes nos jogos de Commonwealth, onde competia no heptatlo, e é formada em direito pela universidade de Birmingham.

"A diferença que quero fazer é representar as mulheres no geral, mas principalmente as esportistas", conta ela ao portal Pageants News. "Quero elevar o nível delas, para que elas consigam mais patrocínio e representação na mídia. Eu sou muito focada em ver as mulheres recebendo igual aos homens no esporte. Essa é a diferença que quero fazer."

Dee-Ann irá concorrer com a espanhola Angela Ponce, a primeira miss transgênero, e a brasileira Mayra Dias.
